1. General information about the network meeting

The CIRIMAT (Toulouse) is happy to host the 3rd network meeting of the CARBIO Marie Curie Research and Training Network. The mid-term review of our network will take place on the 26th of June (see programme below). It will be followed on the 27th (morning) by administrative and fellow meetings in parallel. On the 27th in the afternoon, 2 public conferences with invited speakers from outside CARBIO network (Pr Christophe Vieu from the LAAS and Dr Bruno Chaudret from the LCC, Toulouse) will present their work in the field of cancer treatment with nanoparticles. We will then move to Montpellier (coach) where will take place on Saturday the 28th the 1st satellite meeting of the NT'08 conference dealing with biological and medical applications of carbon nanotubes. CARBIO fellows will participate to the poster session organised during this meeting and have the opportunity to discuss their results with international experts in the field of carbon nanotubes research.

Please let us know as soon as possible your arrival details so that we can organise everything in the best conditions when you reach your accomodation.

In Toulouse, accomodation of participants is located on the campus of the University Paul Sabatier in two different places: INSA or Tripode A (see map). All rooms have private bathroom and toilets. Linen and towels are included. University rooms in Tripode A have (limited) private cooking facilites and internet access (cable connexion (no WiFi), with your own computer and cable). At the INSA guest house, there is a common kitchen available but unfortunately no network access (however the rooms are larger).

In Montpellier, all participants will stay in University accomodation (private bathroom and toilets, linen and towels included). People not attending the NT'08 conference will stay at the "Colombière", and those attending NT'08 will stay at the "Voie Domitienne" residence. The distance between the 2 residences is supposed to be about 500m. The name of the nearest tramway station is "Hôpital Lapeyronie" for the residence "Colombière" and "Saint Eloi" for the residence "Voie Domitienne". On arrival, the coach will stop at the 2 residences and we will meet later at the "Saint Eloi" tramway station to go for dinner in town. Details will be given probably during the coach trip to Montpellier. The map of the tramway lines can be downloaded here.

2. Arrival in Toulouse

For information, maps of public transportations in Toulouse are available here: network map, metro (line A), metro (line B).

By plane:

You will land at Blagnac International airport. Apart from the taxi (ask either for the INSA campus close to University Paul Sabatier or Tripode A at University Paul Sabatier (Route de Narbonne)), the only way to reach Toulouse city centre is a shuttle which you will find just outside the arrival hall. This shuttle runs every 20 minutes until midnight (around 4 euros for a single trip). Get off at "Allées Jean Jaurès" and take the metro (Jean Jaures station, line B - follow the metro sign, a circled M) from there (direction: RAMONVILLE). You will find automatic ticketing machines where we advise to buy a single trip (aller simple) ticket for 1€40.

To obtain your ticket from an automatic ticketing machine:
1) Move the black roll located below the screen (the message "Sélectionner votre ticket" is displayed just on the top of it). A list of possible selections should appear, with a series of flags on the top. Select the series of flags by moving the black roll and press the green button to validate your choice ("VALIDER" = validate);
2) Select "1 trip", quantity (1 per person), and pay by cash only if you buy a single ticket or by cash or credit card from 2 tickets (the minimum payment by credit card is 2€ and the price of a single trip is 1,40€)
The red button ("ANNULER") is used to cancel the task in progress.

Get off at "Faculté de Pharmacie" station (M1 on the map) if you are going to the INSA guesthouse or at "Université Paul Sabatier" station (M2 on the map) if you are staying in Tripode A. From there, follow the directions depending on the location of your accomodation (see map).

By train:

Take the stairs to exit the platform (downstairs) and follow the "Metro" signs. You will find automatic ticketing machines where we advise to buy a single trip (aller simple) ticket for 1€40. (click here for explanations about how to use the automatic ticketing machines). Take the Metro (A line) (you will need to introduce your ticket to go through the gates) and take the direction "BASSO CAMBO". Get off at "Jean Jaures" station where you will find the connexion with the B line. Take the B line (direction RAMONVILLE). Get off at "Faculté de Pharmacie" station (M1 on the map) if you are going to the INSA guesthouse or at "Université Paul Sabatier" station (M2 on the map) if you are staying in Tripode A. From there, follow the directions depending on the location of your accomodation (see map).

5. Meals

No dinner is organised on wednesday evening. The participants will find shops and restaurants along the "Route de Narbonne" (direction Toulouse) after a 15-20 minute walk. For Mac Donalds addicts, there is one just at the entry of Ramonville (take the Route de Narbonne in the other direction - will take some 15-20 minutes to walk there).

Breakfasts will be available on the INSA cafeteria (see map) from 8am to 10.45 (just show your CARBIO conference badge at the cashier, do not pay anything). Lunches will be organised on campus.

The conference dinner will take place on Thursday evening in the historic city centre, on the "Place du Capitole" (Capitole square). A metro return metro ticket will be provided for each participant for this occasion. We will depart together from the campus around 6:45 pm ("Faculté de Pharmacie" metro station) and get off at "Jean Jaurès" station. A 1h excursion will depart from the Place du Capitole (see map and details) to enjoy a little bit of the city centre before dinner. For those who would not like to come to the excursion, we will meet again later at the Place du Capitole (not at the Capitole metro station, on the square itself) around 8:30 pm.
In case of rain (would be rather unusual but who knows?) we would take the A line at "Jean Jaurès" and go just one station further (direction "Basso Cambo" to get off at "Capitole" station, which is a little bit closer to the destination. You will find here a map showing the corresponding metro stations and the Place du Capitole.

Dinner in Montpellier will be organised in a restaurant close to the "Place de la Comédie", in the city centre.

Map for dinner in town (thursday evening)

Map and details for the excursion in Toulouse before the conference dinner on Thursday evening. We will start from the Capitole square. We will take the "Saint Rome" street (a very busy pedestrian shopping street) to reach the Esquirol square. We will then take on the right-hand side to see the "Pont Neuf" (new bridge) on the Garonne and then take on the right-hand side again to walk along the banks of the river. After a stop at the Daurade square, we'll have a quick look at the church "Les Jacobins" before coming back to the Capitole square. Depending on time available, we'll go to the end of the "Rue du Taur" to see the splendid "Saint Sernin" cathedral (with a few rock sarcophages around the buidling). In case you wish to see a little bit of Toulouse on Wednesday evening, this itinerary would be a good suggestion. Lots of restaurants are available all around.
